This blog examines, reviews and discusses how worship is being lived out in culture and in the church. We tackle everything from songwriting techniques in corporate worship, to interviewing worship leaders and pastors, to reviewing the last big rock concert.
Loops in Worship recently interviewed me about my music background and loop work. I was humbled Will thought I might have something interesting to say or that people would be interested in hearing what I have to say. Anyway, check it out when you get a chance and make sure to browser around the rest of the site. They offer a lot of great resources for those interested in looping.
Leave a comment over there too if you are so inclined and please don’t be alarmed by my paleness in my picture.
This song has been on my to do list for some time and is the first song I’m doing as part of the Gospel Community Worship Project. I’ve always loved this song and been in a couple of Delirious’ concerts when they played it live and it was incredible. The arrangement here has the same instrumental hook that makes the song instantly recognizable.
I did make some changes to the end section, namely I don’t do the “there will come a day…” part. I just allow for some repeats on the “Hallelujah” tag. The loop here does have a bass line in it. If you need it muted you’re welcome to download the Reason file and mute it out, or you can comment or contact me and request me to do it for you if you don’t have Reason.
Remember to vote on the loop below, this really helps me get a sense of what folks find useful. Also it is used to calculate top loops widget in sidebar for people to quickly see the better loops.
If you download this loop or you’ve benefited in any way or are appreciative of the service, I’d ask that you please consider donating whatever you feel the loop is worth. The amount (including $0) I leave up to you.
I released the God of This City Loop in Aug of ‘09 and I still get a lot of questions about how this mixes live. The easiest way to explain it is to just let you listen to us play it live. This is a live mix of my band (Our Rising Sound) playing God of This City this past Sunday at Life Connection Church. It’s far from perfect(my vocals stink and need to fix drum micing), but hopefully it will help those interested in the loop hear how we pull it off live.
For those who’ve used the loop themselves if you have recordings of how you’ve used it, I’d love to hear them. Comment away.

This custom loop is for use with Misty Edwards’ “You Won’t Relent” off her album Relentless. The song has an unmistakable melodic hook, but I think one of the challenges for me in the loop was how to restrain that. This arrangement(parts, not instrumentation) follows the Jesus Culture performance of this song which is 10 minutes long. So the challenge here was how do I show restraint in the loop arrangement instrumentation wise, layer slowly and hit that hook in a way that doesn’t become too repetitive. I’ll let you be the judge of how successful or unsuccessful I was at that.
You can stream the loop below but you are not able to download the loop. In order to download the loop files you need to send payment through PayPal. The price for this loop is $14.99 as is. Once payment is received I’ll contact you and give you download instructions. The following is what’s delivered upon receipt of payment:
Loop (high quality stereo mp3 and aif)
Vocal Cue track (aif)
Master Reason 4 file (rns)
Arrangement Details (rtf, shows exactly what parts come in at what time)
As always though please comment and rate the loop to let me know what you think. I had a lot of fun making this loop and I’m pleased that the original customer is very happy with it.
I’ve been working with Reason and Abelton Live creating loops for worship songs both original and covers for a few years now. I’ve released most of them on this site and made them available for all to use for free. I’ve had a lot of inquiries about creating custom loops for people and I am now accepting these offers. Please browse the loops through the link above to get a sense of my musical sensibility and if you think my style is a good match for your needs. Here is some info on the process.

Terms
I will be very honest an open about my schedule and when you can expect completion of your loop. Ongoing communication through loop composing process is key to make sure you are happy as a customer. Your custom loop will not be given free to anyone but I doreserve the right to resell the custom loop for any price I deem appropriate. In order to make this worth the time and to keep the initial investment cost as low as possible to you the customer, I need to make these available for resell. On average a loop takes me 15-20 hours, if you do the math, without resell I’d be making about $5/hr-$10/hr.
If these terms sound agreeable to you please use the contact form below to contact me for a quote. I will follow up with you and we can discuss arrangement details of the song.
This is a cool tutorial on some techniques to slice up drum patterns in interesting ways. Great because it’s tool agnostic, meaning you can use the same technique in whatever application you are using, Abelton, Login, Reason, etc… Click through to his vimeo account to see more tutorials.
