Where music, culture and worship meet.

This blog examines, reviews and discusses how worship is being lived out in culture and in the church. We tackle everything from songwriting techniques in corporate worship, to interviewing worship leaders and pastors, to reviewing the last big rock concert.

Sunday Set List – “Cardinals worship day”

Tagged Under : , , , , , ,

Much of the congregation was worshiping at the foot of the Cardinals altar and didn’t make it to church. Jesus faced some tough competition for worship and lost out on some due praise. I kid I kid…no really…just kidding….no I’m serious…joke…not really. I’m not a football guy so I wasn’t even aware there was a big game. Kurt Warner can sure throw the ball…but can he save your soul? Again just joking…not really…totally kidding…nope.

My cold is getting worse, I feel like I’ve been sick for a month. We had to shuffle some songs because while a 50% accuracy is an incredible shooting % in basketball, it’s a really awful % of notes missed vocally. Thanks to Kendra who basically led the set and sounded great as usual.

Sunday Set List: “Countdown to Christmas”

Tagged Under : , , , , , , ,

This was the final week of no Christmas songs. Now I have to bite the bullet and pull off a few next week. I’ve been working on some new arrangements and hopefully we’ll be able to do Christmas tunes in a cool new way. I will say this though, there are no upbeat cool Christmas songs. Not a single one.

This week’s set went pretty good. The congregation really entered in so that was great. We reworked “Sweetly Broken” because I just couldn’t play it anymore the same way. I think we came up with some cool ideas and pulled it off, just not as smoothly as I would have liked. “With Everything” went really well this week, the church really caught on to this one fast which is great.

Sunday Set List – “Fight for Life”

Tagged Under : , , , , , ,

Last week was a really rough set, so I really wanted to make sure things went smoothly this week. Fortunately we praise a God full of grace and this Sunday went incredibly well. As we were winding down the set playing None But Jesus, our pastor brought up one of our interns who led us in prayer for life and for the church’s fight against abortion. This woman’s prayer was especially powerful because she had an abortion and has publicly cried out for healing. After her prayer another one of our interns got up and led us in passionate prayer for a spirit of adoption in the church. See this young man was supposed to be aborted, but was saved by the grace of God and adopted by some loving Christian parents.

It was an incredibly moving time of prayer and passionate worship. I won’t forget it and it again emphasized what’s on the line this election year.
