Loop available: “New Creation” by Fellowship Church

Tagged Under : , , , ,

New Creation is an incredible song from Dex Alexander and Fellowship Church. If you haven’t seen the video of their live performance make sure to check it out. I’ve had this in the queue to do for a long time, but it wasn’t until we decided to do this song for Easter that it rose to the top of the stack.

Fair warning, I really changed up the vibe on the intro and verses…it’s a true remix there. You can sing the same melody over it and hopefully get the feel for it. I also inserted a few more bars into the verse section to give space for an added vocal section we did. I don’t have a live recording of our performance yet to demonstrate our arrangement, but as always I have the arrangement file guiding you. And if you choose to purchase the arrangement can be altered for your taste.

Loop Available: “All God’s Children” by Delirious (Free)

Tagged Under : , ,

This song has been on my to do list for some time and is the first song I’m doing as part of the Gospel Community Worship Project. I’ve always loved this song and been in a couple of Delirious’ concerts when they played it live and it was incredible. The arrangement here has the same instrumental hook that makes the song instantly recognizable.

I did make some changes to the end section, namely I don’t do the “there will come a day…” part. I just allow for some repeats on the “Hallelujah” tag. The loop here does have a bass line in it. If you need it muted you’re welcome to download the Reason file and mute it out, or you can comment or contact me and request me to do it for you if you don’t have Reason.

Our Rising Sound – God of This City (Live, with loop)

Tagged Under : , , , ,

I released the God of This City Loop in Aug of ’09 and I still get a lot of questions about how this mixes live. The easiest way to explain it is to just let you listen to us play it live. This is a live mix of my band (Our Rising Sound) playing God of This City this past Sunday at Life Connection Church. It’s far from perfect(my vocals stink and need to fix drum micing), but hopefully it will help those interested in the loop hear how we pull it off live.

For those who’ve used the loop themselves if you have recordings of how you’ve used it, I’d love to hear them. Comment away.

Loop available: “Burning Ones” by Jesus Culture

Tagged Under : , , , ,

If you read this blog with any regularity you may be asking yourself, didn’t Kyle write a post about how theologically unsound some of the lyrics from this song are? The answer is, why yes I did write a post about that, I also wrote a post about how much I dug the song as a whole and in order to fix the lyric problem I changed them. Simple yet effective solution.

Your love is our reward, that’s why we ask for more of You

became

You set our hearts desires, that all our lives bring glory to You

Now onto the loop. This loop uses a bass sequence on the verses second the second chorus. It allows room for a live bass player to play underneath without muddying up the mix, but you can decide how you’d approach that or you can catch my bass player on twitter and ask him his thoughts. The arrangement follows the Jesus Culture arrangement as far as order of song sections.

Loop available: “The Solid Rock” by Edward Mote

Tagged Under : , , , , , ,

Over the past couple years my heart has really been moved towards re-arranging hymns, due in large part to the influence of Mars Hill’s worship leaders but also due to a conviction on singing theologically rich lyrics. One of my favorite hymns is “The Solid Rock” by Edward Mote. I’ve done a couple versions of this song and always enjoyed E-pop’s version of this song, but on one particular listen it moved from appreciation to an urgency to do it.

Most of the time I try and respond to that urgency in my spirit, there are a lot of songs I have in the queue to loop so I have to prioritize in some way. So this arrangement is a version off of the E-pop arrangement. Same hook in the piano melody but used some different instrumentation, rhythm and added a more heavy instrumental section.

Adam Pasion Interview Part 2 – “Gypsy Girl” story

Tagged Under : , ,

pasion-cdcoverI recently sat down with Adam Pasion who’s new album “O Hear the Rattling” (iTunes) seriously impressed me. The music to me is best described as dark folk, very rich lyrically, with dark melodies and full folk string instrumentation and groove. I’ve not heard another Christian album like this at all, and by Christian album I just mean Adam is a Christian who wants to see Christ glorified in his music, but these aren’t necessarily corporate worship songs.

In part 2 of the interview we talk about the story behind the track “Gypsy Girl.”

Loop available: “Death In His Grave” by John Mark McMillan

Tagged Under : , , ,

I’ve written previously at how brilliant this song is and how more churches should be doing this song. The bridge for this song is one of the most powerful portions of song I’ve sung, very difficult to get through composed.

He has cheated hell and seated
Us above the fall
In desperate place He paid our wages
One time once and for all

That bridge was the main reason I wanted to do a loop for this. I felt like that part could and should get huge. So the loop is really simple for most of it, just has an organ, some claps, little kick, shaker, cello, but then ramps up on the tag. I spent quite a while getting the proper back and forth shaker action instead of just the single forward action that pretty much all shaker samples use. I know it’s probably not all that impressive to anyone but I was really happy with the end result for the shaker.

You’ll notice my changes in the bridge section and you may also noticed I slowed it down. I like giving the verses a little more room so people don’t get lost in the lyrics.

Song release: “Live or No Longer Live” by Kyle Campos (Live)

Tagged Under : , , , ,

Life Connection Church logoThis song has been a long, adventurous process. I didn’t write it as a corporate worship song, it actually came together after some wrestling I was doing with God over Lordship of my life. I spoke in a recent Sunday Set List at length about the background of the song but essentially dealt with me handing over my security to Jesus.

The song is based primarily out of Philippians 1, which was challenging to work out of. The text is supremely rich, just not the most melodic phrases to work with, so it was a challenge but I wanted to use it. This recording is from the 2nd time we ever played it live. There’s plenty left to do with the song arrangement wise, so this is pretty raw but I like to get a picture of where the song is heading first naturally before working on tighter arrangement details, loops and such. I really question my judgment releasing songs publicly that are so early in the process, but getting critique at this point is always helpful.

Lyrics:

Verse:
The passions of our youth, faded into sin
We laid waste to our call, and shame took us in
But you reached out in the night, left ninety nine behind
A dead man you found, filthy and bound
You loosened the binds, and life now I find

Lead me to live, lead me to live (x2)

Chorus:
Adonai, You gave me life
Now lead me in all that I do
Adonai, in this heart of mine
Shape me in the image of you

Chorus-Out 1:
Rejoicing in all things we sing
Christ be honored now
If we live or no longer live

Chorus-Out 2:
To live is for Christ, die is gain
We are not ashamed
If we live or no longer live
