You looked for much, and behold, it came to little. (Haggai 1:9)
I don’t know about you but I need constant reminder of where I’ve been, of what I’ve looked for, found, stored and lost. Much in vain. Not only is the pursuit of false treasures vanity, but so too is the discovery and keeping. Haggai describes it as storing your treasures in bags with holes.
Now, therefore, thus says the LORD of hosts: Consider your ways. You have sown much, and harvested little. You eat, but you never have enough; you drink, but you never have your fill. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm. And he who earns wages does so to put them into a bag with holes. (Haggai 1:5-6)
For me it’s not only a needed reminder, it’s a loving reminder of what does bring my fill. Jesus. Only Jesus.
