Matt Redman: “Too much romantic imagery” in worship
Tagged Under : Matt Redman, songwriting, theology, worship
One thing I love about Matt Redman is his passion for truth, for the gospel and for worship to be Christ centered. In this brief interview clip Matt discusses the over use of romantic imagery in worship songs and how that may negatively impact men in our church. I believe that to be true and to that point I remember attending one popular conference where at the end they played some worship song as people held hands and skipped down the aisle singing “we’re getting married”, an illusion to Jesus being the church’s bridegroom of course. It was one of the most uncomfortable worship moments of my life.
What are your thoughts on what Matt has to say here?

Sloppy wet kiss?
If viewed out of context as our feelings towards God then ya, that would be romantic imagery. But in context that imagery has little to do with romance. Closer to God's love and sovereignty crashing together in death. But yeah I understand how a cursory view of the lyrics would lead one to feel that way.

I want to be a blokey bloke.
cool post brutha. I think we've all had one of those "awkward" feeling moments in worship. I know that it is a fine line we are all learning how to walk. You want to engage bloakes in worship, but at the same time, not water things down! How do we relate God's intense love to a man's man without coming across in a feminine way… great discussion
