Propellerhead “Record” Review: Reason + audio

Record is Propellerhead’s latest software release that finally addresses the much requested feature of audio recording inside of Reason. But instead of adding it to Reason they created a new product. The price sounds right at $299 for all the features they’ve thrown in. Create Digital Music has a wonderful in depth review of Record and this video below gives a nice intro to the product as well. You can sign up for beta testing at www.record-you.com

Hmmm… Looks sweet, I guess. I wonder how it would interact with Reason.

Any scoop on if it’ll take plugins (VST, etc.)?

Ben: Looks like you get full Reason support inside of it. From the review -> “Reason + Record: If you have Reason, you have access to all your Reason modules. And since Record has a big Reason rack – well, you get the idea. Instead of recording inside Reason, what Reason users get is Reason inside a bigger version of Reason that understands not only recording, but mixing and audio arrangement, and treats audio like music, with tempo.”

Jeff T: From what I’ve read it won’t take any plugins.

Kyle: That sounds amazing. Now you could work with one program instead of Logic/GarageBand/Recycle and Reason. And the extra guitar tracks you might lay down could be realized like any rex loop could without that extra step. That’s really a cool deal.

Yeah exactly, that’s what I’m excited about. I frequently use live instruments in my loops so this will make it much easier.

Hey Man – I know you're playing around with the beta and I'm wondering if you've had the same issue I'm having. My iMac won't let me select my built-in input as the software input. Any ideas? Thanks!

REASON DOES NOT NEED AND NEVER WILL BE NEEDING ANY VST OR OTHER KIND OF PLUGINS, IT IS SIMPLY THE BEST DIGITAL WORKSTATION EVER BUILT!!!!

This is the best DAW I've ever used. Even though you can't import your own VST's they give you tons of top quality effects. I have the Reason Record Duo and I love it!
I've been using it for several months now, daily and I've never had one glitch. It works flawlessly with Reason.
I love the mixer, easy to fine tune each track. CPU friendly too just like Reason. I really get the sound I want.
I would highly recommend this product to everyone.
