Sunday Set List: “My baby dedicated & Systems fail”
Tagged Under : Hillsong, Hillsong United, Ryan Delmore, Sunday Set List, worship
Busy day, Mothers Day and we had about 16 babies being dedicated in service this Sunday. As you can tell, our church is a big fan of kids(and Mothers), we like making babies. My wife and I are doing our part and this Sunday our new baby Adia Grace was dedicated along with 15 others. It was wonderful to put the guitar down and come pray with my family and for my baby. Most Sundays are spent away from my family, so it was wonderful to be able to spend even part of the service with them. Families make many sacrifices when in ministry, this being one of them.
As I finished praying there was a single woman(I assume this since she was alone with her child) standing next to my wife and I and I was doing double duty at that point, father and elder praying for people. I started to pray for her and her baby and she was crying really hard, it broke my heart as I can only imagine the things she’s broken over and what brought her to church this day. I only had a minute or 2, my wife started to talk with her and then we had to get off stage. I don’t know if she spoke with anyone after service, I pray she did.
This just made me realize how much is going on out there in the congregation that goes unnoticed and unspoken. To make this a church systems issue I think is both silly and prideful. There is practical responsibility on our part, but any system we come up with is at the mercy, literally and figuratively, of the Holy Spirit. Our visitor card isn’t going to reach that single mom where she was at yesterday, but my prayer is the Holy Spirit touched her, comforted her, made her feel loved and out of that, that our church would be attentive, intentional, humble servants to this woman to bring her into community.
Here’s the much less important set list:
- The World Can’t Take It Away – Ryan Delmore
- Hosanna – Hillsong United (loop available)
- Come Thou Fount
- With Everything – Hillsong (loop available)

kyle thanks for the eye opener. I had a similar experience sunday. Praying for a young child and speaking truth over him. You are not a accident. You are chosen, you are a gift to your mom and dad, and then the mom says “never forget that son.” For some reason that brought a tear to my eye. Just the mother’s simple agreement and the son was old enough to acknowledge. It was just a moment for me.
I walked into the lobby a little after service was ending to find a young woman crying (I’m 99% sure it’s the same girl you are talking about!). I ended up talking to her for about an hour and it was heartbreaking to hear her story. She has been abandonded by her husband who is now living with his girlfriend and she is left to take care of her young son alone. She has no family here and is need of some practical help like finding a job, childcare, rides, etc. So, we are on it! The ladies in my group and I told her we are all about praying for her, leading her to Jesus and helping her in practial ways along the way. I put her in contact with an amazing lady at our church who is going to help her find a job, one of the ladies in our group is offering to help with childcare and we are also trying to find her a cell phone and transportation.
So, I’m really hoping it’s the same girl you & Mel met and even if it wasn’t, I’m confidenet that the Lord will lead someone to reach out to her. It was humbling to read your post and know that we don’t have perfect systems in place to reach every person that walks through our doors, and never will BUT GOD has planned, purposed & pursued each person in His family and His will is always accomplished. It’s amazing that He continues to use us to despite our many weaknesses.
It’s truly a blessing to see God at work in the lives of His people, what an honor to serve His people, one I hope we never take lightly.
