This has to be one of my favorite posts.
How true is that?!?!?! Sometimes we do (i am speaking from a re-occuring-right-now) experience.) take ourselves way to seriously and pressure ourselves into thinking that WE cause changes in hearts by our music- when we just need to gently reminded that it's Him not us. :) and I love the way that He shows us when we think all is lost.

Kyle, totally agree! That was a rough set to say the least and I thought that everyone in the congregation was surely distracted by our musical flubs but.....that was not the case at all.....in fact, the Spirit was moving quite powerfully in spite of us. As one of the ladies that we have been praying for came up at the end of service to give her life to Christ it really put things in perspective and as we celebrated what God had done in her heart all I could think is Thank you Jesus for all that You are and all that I'm not!

Fred: Yeah this certainly puts the confess in confessional :-) Thanks for hosting these setlists and the RT.

Daniel: Great point on excellence vs holiness. Takes a completely abiding spirit to be able to discern where we've lost sight of the ultimate truth in exchange for possibly a valid practical truth, but not the *ultimate* truth.

Hello, Kyle;
Had a similar Sunday, full of misfires, missed ques and mis-focused band mates.

I always want us to do our best work. But, in His faithfulness, He is showing me that my 'spirit of excellence' (a possible conceit) is not His Spirit of Holiness.

No matter how good I am on any given day, it is only He who truly touches & transforms hearts toward Truth. Likewise, and thankfully, a bad day can be a distraction, but He is not hampered.

...in Him;

Hey Kyle,
I'm glad you posted this ... it's called a "confessional" because we "confess", right? I've been in that situation on more than one occasion where I realize that we take ourselves WAY too seriously.

Thanks for being a part of "Sunday Setlists" every week.

Two comments I have son - 1. John Wimber, when asked what he did to prepare for ushering in the Holy Spirit when he spoke said "I have a diet Coke". His answer was to illustrate that he has NO control over when and how the Spirit would move. and 2. I remember VC Santa Barbara's first service at the Victoria Street Theatre - the place was full 700+ and my worship band was all practiced up - WE WERE GONNA ROCK! - the drummer counted the first song down, and the first chord I hit on my piano tripped a breaker, NO POWER. That was embarrassing AND humbling. After that was fixed, my attitude was sure changed from ME to worshiping HIM>

Hey Kyle,

That's awesome! You've learned early-on one of the most important lessons I've learned in my life.

We do our best, but we're human and sometimes things go wrong. God, however, is always on the top of his game. And handles all the things I worry about, without ever making me feel worse.

It is a huge relief to realize how small we are and how big God is. Amen!!
