Also, a couple years ago, Truth did a Christmas CD. I actually like it alot, even though it doesn’t sound like U2 or Coldplay or whoever’s hip. It’s called You Are Emmanuel and has several great cuts.

Gary: There’s a lot of different ways people implement using loops in live settings. For myself I do pretty much all production inside of Reason and then use Ableton Live to control the loop live. So I guess the first step is deciding what kind of loops you are thinking about creating and then trying out the software that best suits that sound. Then of course you need IEMs since you’ll be playing to a click.

I’m going to be getting some reviews from musicians on the various loop software they use so we can have a comprehensive review here on each and not just what I use. So stay tuned. Shoot me an email if you wanna discuss your particular setup in detail. I’ll help in whatever way I can.

I don’t know exactly what you mean by “cool,” but here’s what we did this weekend. Seemed to go over well.

Christmas Offering – Paul Baloche
Away In A Manger – Third Day blues version
Born In Bethlehem – also Third Day
Jesus Messiah – Chris Tomlin
O Come All Ye Faithful – Third Day again

We joked that it was a Third Day set, but those were the ones we really liked, so we went with it.

I led with:
O Holy Night (you can really speed that one up and the last verse/chorus is powerful worship)
Light of the World -Matt Redman (I always thought this would be a great Christmas song, first time trying it)
Gloria 34 (because the Gloria sounds christmasy)

Overall went well. It definately felt Christmasy but still powerful worship.

Twila Paris’ This World is jumpy and cool in a retro kinda way. Actually, her dad wrote it about 40 years ago. And you can get down with a swing version of Go Tell It on the Mountain.

If you think upbeat Christmas music is hard to find for a worship setting, try finding New Year’s Day music.
