Video: Amazingly creative worship song - “New Creation”
Tagged Under : Ed Young, Fellowship Church, video, worship
I stumbled across this video on Man of Depravity’s blog. This is a video from Fellowship Church in Texas, pastored by Ed Young, doing a worship song of theirs called “New Creation” and a few things really stick out to me.
- First is the incredible production and creativity level. Rightly impressed.
- Second is the song itself is very creative, love the unexpected turns it takes, not your traditional contemporary worship song and I’m encouraged to see a church of its size not going the safe route.
- Third is the rather subdued and sad response and participation from the congregation. Besides watching a few sermons of Ed Young, I know nothing of this church or how it carries its services but man I was moved watching it on my computer screen. Being there I certainly would hope would get you out of your seat and stop watching and actually engage a bit. The other videos I’ve seen from this church had similar responses, which is too bad. Leading this would feel silly to me if all that happened was applause at the end.

Did the response or lack of engagement puzzle anyone else?

real cool… I totally agree with your comments about the corporate involvement. Very moving. Kyle lets paint you this week on stage.
thanks for the link man, glad you liked it.
yeah the response is a little weird. i would then assume that they billed the song as a special. something to listen to. that it would set up something else.
Hi there…
I attend FC (have for years) and was in the audience for this song. That’s an interesting observation you have about the crowd and I was trying to think back to that day to try and shed some light on it…
First off, I have to say that for me personally, God used this song and worship to rock my world! I was so moved and almost came to tears when at the end of the song there was a heart left painted on Dex’s shirt.
I was moved that much but wasn’t standing up. Why? Well, I really think I (and the rest of the crowd) was so engulfed of what was happening with the painting that we were kind of mesmerized. It felt like it was more of a drama that was very moving. For me, when I’m watching a drama, I can’t watch to see what’s going to happen if I’m standing up worshipping God with my eyes closed. So, I was on the edge of my seat watching, focused, and I remember I had a big smile and chills running up my spine.
Anyways, it may have not translated on the video but the crowd was into it (even though we weren’t standing) and it was absolutely incredible.
John, Thanks for filling us in. I can see where you are coming from and I don’t mean to imply that you are only worshipping when standing. I’m glad the congregation was blessed and man so was I watching it. I guess I was just expecting at least a huge standing O at the end, cause that was down right INCREDIBLE! Be blessed John thanks for the comment, I appreciate the context.
I also am a member of Fellowship and was there that night and I agree completely with John. It was an amazing experience and everyone was moved deeply. I to felt we were all mesmerized and to me sitting and reflecting really seemed the appropriate response at the time.
Also, if you want to get out of your seat to worship, then visit FC because we spend almost the entire worship portion of the service on our feet.
Thanks for the positive comments about the video and sharing it on your blog.
Jeff, thanks for the context. Glad to hear it, I hope to visit at some point.
I think as a pastor or a leader as much as we get critiqued about everything we do it never gets easy to hear. I think that it is funny see a worship leader critique the crowd response and participation. I also think that even though John and jeff are one in the crowd that they felt the need to defend the crowd response. I would wonder what the guy who was singing would say about the crowd response?
I know that this post is about a month late, but I was elated to find the video on the internet tonight. I was there and also did not stand after the performance. I was overwhelmed by the message of the song and by the way it was presented. The only movement I made after several seconds was to ask my wife if she had some tissues or napkins in her purse.
