Dear Joe - I guess it was more important for you to be able to tell us about your ancestory than for you to REALLY take note that this is all fake. But I'm sure the folks at Beulah Cumpberland are VERY impressed with your credentials! However, now that you've had an opportunity to showcase your talents perhaps you might take some time to research the background of all this as carefully as you've researched your roots - snopes is a good place to start - oh and the Bible too - about pride - sounds like you're rather full of yourself - and casting stones - 'cause that's what you've done to the ministry at Beulah.
Take a page from your own book fella - you want facts - just the facts? The fact is - THIS IS A HOAX - and you fell for it!!! Could it be you are JUST A LITTLE OPINIONATED - don't want to hear the truth - all the better to show off your deep exegetical skills?? That you've stopped hearing / reading what others are sharing??? Better be careful - I think your kingdom might be crumbling!!! You might want to stop and reconsider the postion you've put yourself and your family in. What would Patrick Ruthven think of your ill-founded - factless tirade??? I think if truth be known you are riding on the poor man's coattails. Find your own ride!!! But while you're at it - P(i)e(a)ce yourself together and may God bless you with bliss.

I have a little jump on you Beulah Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Kentucky. My ancestor was Patrick Ruthven. He attended the Caholic Church in Perth Scotland in the mid 1500s'. The church he attended was called "The Congregation of the Lord's." His priest was exiled to Europe by Mary Queen of Scotts. He later returned to Perth. His name was John Knox. I guess you could say my ancestor went to THE FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.

I have no idea where your minister went to seminary. "Dogs do not have a soul." Did you read your bible carefully. Dogs do have life, Jesus said, "I am the Truth, The Way and Life." He also spoke about bringing life more abundantly. You may want to do some Exegesisof the New Testament Exegesis is extensive and critical interpretation of authoritative text. or use some form criticism before you take the stand for the Presbyterian Church. I had not seen that you alone were chosen to speak for God or the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Certainly, every person has their own truth. The examination or our truth is easily done. Ask yourself if your ideas are Feelings, Facts or Opinions. You will discover religious ideas are mostly opinions. Feelings are ideas that quickly change from one concept to another. Small children do this without stopping. Facts, Straight facts are simply data which we process in our cognitive processes. Then we apply them as needed. Opinions are ideas we create out or our past experiences and we often discover don't really fit the situation. When we become Opinionated we stop hearing what others are saying and hold our ground come hell or high water. When we do this we find the battle begins and our Kingdom soon crumbles. People have chosen not to have Kings or Queens any longer.

You might want to stop and reconsider the positioin you have placed yourself and the members of Beulah with you. To be sure. There are no doubt others who desire to be the King of your congregation. Usiing their great intellect they may wish to read the Greek New Testament and learn a little more than you have been preaching or teaching the Gospel.

John 14-6 ??and John 10-10

Judge not. You might find our you are the dog chasing your own tail. Opinionated people do that.

Just a little more scripture. Pick your own. You can make it work anyway you watt it to go. To protect yourself you may not want to use Exegesis in the presence of your congregation,

Peace yourself together and may God bliss you.

These signs were generated from a website that sells church signs, and allows people to create messages on a church sign to see how they look.

oh, shut up!! It was funny, real or not, and it made people laugh and smile. We need a little more of that in today's world. Lighten up. I personally believe that animals, being God's creatures, after all, have souls.

This seems bogus. Look at the cars in the background of the Catholic sign. They never move. I think this is a clever hoax but a hoax nonetheless.

I'm not taking this sign thing seriously, but wanted to point out a cultural error that is often made. Someone referenced that Noah took two of each animal onto the ark - actually, he took seven pair of each clean animal onto the ark, not two. He took two of each unclean animal (pigs, etc. see Jewish laws for details).

We can go back and forth for years, trying to cut and paste scripture to our own devices, but it may not be possible to get an answer on this one until you are actually in heaven. No need for this much heat. It may be better to put this much energy into something that can benefit mankind, like, say, sharing the Gospel.

Just a thought. :)

Okay. THis is too funny. Just last night i was reading the great commission part about "preaching the Gospel to all creatures" to my kids and said "hey, I wonder if we are supposed to tell dogs and other animals too". I really being serious, but obviously someone took a lot of time in Photoshop so they must think that it's a serious thing to sort out :^).

THanks for the laffs.

This is too funny, first the fake signs and then the comments here. Of course dogs go to heaven, it's us two legged narcissists that are questionable. Who are we to say who/what can or can't go to heaven? A dog's humility will go a long way to getting along with Peter. We need to be more inclusionary here. Saint Francis of Assisi came a little after Luke and John so it's understandable that they didn't get it right and remember to include dogs -- they were more concerned with whether lions and tigers and gladiators went to heaven ;) I hope dogs do go to heaven, they are much better company.

Gosh Joedave - for a moment I thought you had a brain between the two of you - then I read again!
IF the signs are a product of a sign generator - photoshop or whatever - why not hold the "creators" responsible rather than slinging mud at the unsuspecting parties whose names have been used.
And as for the rest of it - I wonder what YOUR IQ is??? If push came to shove - probably couldn't pass a p*** test let alone one that would allow you to vote. Oops, no more ??????

CHECK OUT THE PHOTOS OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH SIGN. SAME EXACT CARS ARE IN ALL THE PHOTOS.

SOMEONE USED PHOTOSHOP TO CHANGE THE SIGN DISPLAY.

SAME FOR THE PRES CHURCH PHOTO (SAME PHOTO, NEW SIGNAGE)

TYPICAL RELIGIOUS BS!

IF THERE WAS A GOD AND HE IS SO SMART, THEN WHY WOULD HE HAVE CREATED HUMANS, EARTH'S DISEASE?

No dear Laura - it is you who is clueless! And if the Presbyterians have to read their Bibles then YOU have to read the posts on this site and not jump to conclusions. The signs are bogus - but you have so neatly bought into their "message" that you are committing a grave injustice by perpetuating the fallacy.
So - if you want to play theology professor and quote the Bible - wonderful. If you want to debate the question - great. And if you want to criticize a denomination that had nothing to do with the whole thing to begin with - then I would suggest you go back and read your Bible on issues around falsehoods and spreading rumours and - and - and - and - - - but make sure you take the plank out of your eye before you do - that way you might at least know what you're reading - and prayerfully then talking about as well - not like in this case. P.S. You might also ask yourself what it is you have against Presbyterians - and why it is you need to believe all of this "sign generator's drivel" anyway.

The Presbyterians are clueless. TELL THEM TO READ THEIR BIBLES!

The Biblical Evidence
In Genesis 2, when God breathes life into Adam, the Bible says God made him "a living soul (nephesh)." In Hebrew this phrase is used also for the animals God creates in Gen. 2:19, but the translators rendered it into English differently, apparently because they assumed that animals didn’t have souls (ironically, the word "soul" in Latin is anima, from which the word "animal" comes.) History shows that at some periods in the Church, there were also controversies about whether women had souls. It is better often to look at the Word than to the same Bible with our theological filters causing tunnel vision.

In the Book of Genesis, there is a story about a great flood that destroyed all the creatures on earth, including most of the humans, because they had been affected by the violence of Cain and Abel after the Fall. Some of the animals were preserved on the Ark by Noah at God’s command. After the flood is over, God promises never again to destroy the whole earth by means of a flood, and sets the rainbow in the sky as a sign of the relationship associated with this promise, which is called a "covenant." Now the interesting thing is this: the covenant that God makes is not just with Noah or with humans. Listen to the Biblical language: "I am establishing my covenant with you and your descendants after you, and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the domestic animals, and every animal of the earth that is with you, as many as came out of the ark…When I bring clouds over the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth (Gen. 9:9-10, 16-17, NRSV)."

It's a fake, from a website that generates church signs.

BUT, it has a history. During the 12 century, a catholic bishop was asked whether any animal would merit heaven. He replied, "Only dogs go to heaven", and gave his reasons.

1. Only dogs deny themselves killing.
2. Only dogs show a loyalty to family and kin.
3. Only dogs will die and sacrifice for others.
4. Only dogs show guilt when doing something wrong.
5. Only dogs can show joy when they love, or are loved.

These things are the nub of a soul and concience.
Few people can measure up to such nobility.
