I know you're talking creativity and all but I thought I'd chime in regarding my observations on why worship band members are so easily offended. I have found many people in worship ministry to be insecure. Insecurity breeds offense. I see it as something the devil likes to use as a weapon against worship ministers. I think it's time to move past our self-centeredness and receive the healing and identity of who we really are in Him. Just sayin' :)

[...] Accurate Self Assessment - Assuming you have good taste now you need to be able to be critical and have accurate elf assessment so that you can accurately measure how well you’re doing or how much you need to improve. Without this good taste is meaningless because you assume that whatever you write or play is great. You’re off in la-la land and any critical thought is shoved out of your head as an attack from the devil himself. Self assessment is important in any role in our lives so that we can measure and have a road map for improvement, but this becomes more difficult in the arts because people get offended when their “artistic expression” is criticized. Rubbish! You can see a post here I wrote on proper perspective of creativity and why worship band members are so easily offended. [...]

This blog arises some very valid points that often go unexplored. I have thought this before but could not articulate it well enough to put into words. To say that our creativity is only a tool to worship God, should not hinder one on the worship team but open up a whole new realm of seeking God's heart. What do I mean? I mean that if I cannot do what I am familiar with, than it forces me to not rely on what I physically know to worship God, it forces me to seek out other ways to express my heart to God. This does not have to be restricting and seen as an opporunity for offense but should be exciting as it ushers each individual and the worship team as a corporate whole to use the body that each has been given to exemplify and demonstrate worship unto our Great and Glorious King. When this can be at the forefront of the worship members' minds, there can be no room left for offense because the ultimate goal would be to worship God in ANY facet not just in the ONE "musical" way that is familiar!
